The Nenets are nomadic people of the Arctic, they still lead a traditional way of life moving long distances with herds of deer throughout the year. Despite the large-scale "snowmobile revolution", the mobility of modern Arctic nomads is still, although to a different extent, provided by such a transport unit as a reindeer team harnessed to sledges.
The nomads use sledges all year round. Nenets sledges are very durable, quite stable while riding and their appearance is very graceful. Birch, spruce and larch are used to make such sledges. These kinds of wood are strong, resilient and easy to work with. Sledges are made without a single metal nail. Instead of nails, wooden pegs are used.
There are passenger sledges (male and female) and cargo ones on which various belongings are transported. Such a variety of sledges species objectively reflects the movement possibilities for people and cargo in tundra throughout the year.
